Commander Centre NQ Sportstar Awards, Ayr – 13 March 2010

A sensual celebration of exotic produce, art and entertainment from the Tropical North. Food and wine tastings, live cooking demos from local and celebrity chefs, exhibitions and forums. This event showcases the fabulous variety of our exotic fruits, seafood, meats, wines, floral blooms and more. Opens with a wine and cheese night at the Imperial Tavern on the Johnstone River on 19 March, and is held at various venues throughout Innisfail, with a Market Extravaganza on Sunday 28. Saturday begins with the great fun “horse sports for motorbikes” Gymwheeler competitions, open to everybody who can ride a bike – men, women and kids, on two-wheelers or four-wheelers. Croydon Barra & Bream Fishing Competition – 27 March 2010

A fundraising program of Cancer Council Queensland, with teams of 10 to 15 people walking or running around a track for 18 hours to help make a difference in the lives of Queenslanders affected by cancer. A moving aspect of the event is the Candlelight Ceremony in the evening, when the inside of the track is illuminated with thousands of candle tributes, each lit in honour and support of someone fighting cancer or in memory of loved ones. Townsville City Council Arts Awards – 1 April 2010
Held at Townsville Civic Theatre, this is a glamorous and entertaining evening recognising the individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to Townsville's cultural life in the past year. A star-studded event including a gala red-carpet welcome and cocktail party on the forecourt of the Theatre followed by a variety concert. This high-powered car show draws about 700 spectators to the Pioneer Park Speedway at Brandon. The car show runs all day Saturday and features a show ’n’ shine, driving events, burnouts, a helicopter lolly drop, supercruise into Ayr, and more. The biggest youth event on the Burdekin’s social calendar, this band contest promises non-stop live entertainment in an alcohol-free environment. Now in its 7th year, the Canefield Ashes brings the excitement of 20/20 cricket to the sugar capital of Australia. Held at Home Hill, the two-day competition has quickly developed into a great weekend of cricket, mateship and socialising and attracts teams from the Burdekin, Bowen, Proserpine and Charters Towers. Townsville Orchid Society Autumn Orchid Show – April 2010

Held at City Place, Stomp the Nard began in 2007 as a back alley dance battle witnessed by about 40 people. In two short years it is now a hugely publicised open air event with over 3500 spectators. This event incorporates a variety of dance styles and hip hop music, and shows what hip hop is really about: music, respect and the dance culture. For more information, go to www.stompthenard.com
Nth Qld Eisteddfod Performing Arts Festival, Mackay - 2-5 April 2010
The 85th Annual Eisteddfod with competitors from all over North Queensland will be held at the Mackay Entertainment Centre. Contact Secretary: 4779 2495
This is the biggest single event on the Normanton fishing calendar with over $10,000 worth of prizes up for grabs. Nominations are on Good Friday and weigh-ins take place outside the Albion Hotel, with the final weigh-in at 5 pm on Sunday. More than 300 people try their luck. Townsville to Port Hinchinbrook Bluewater Classic – 2-5 April 2010
The 7th annual event, getting bigger and better each year with more and more sponsors becoming a part of these events.
